Three-day drama festival concludes at Ban Theatre, Tezpur

TEZPUR: The 16th Natya Samrat Prafulla Borah Memorial three-day long Drama Festival organized by Abadan, a socio-cultural organization of Tezpur, in association with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, concluded at Ban Theatre on Tuesday. Several prolific plays were staged at the festival which began with 'Jyogya Bhugya Bashundhara' presented by Jengrai Asom, Mangaldoi. It was written and directed by Biswajit Deka. The programme was inaugurated by cultural activist and social worker, Naren Lahkar. It started with lighting of the earthen lamp by Anshuman Borah, cultural activist and son of Prafulla Borah. It was followed by floral tributes to the Natya Samrat by president and secretary of Abadan, Pramath Das and Bhupen Kataki and other dignitaries.

Asom Natya Sanmilan, Pashim Tezpur Brajanath Sarma chapter, presented 'Banshadhar', written by Natya Samrat Prafulla Borah and directed by actor Dharmendra Nath on Monday.

Mridangam Gobardanga, West Bengal, presented the Bengali play 'Sayakrita', written and directed by Kushal Deka, which is based on the story of noted writer, Saurabh Kumar Chaliha and the lead role was played by actor Barun Mar. The play was staged on Tuesday.

Apart from this, the prestigious Natya Samrat Prafulla Borah Award for the year 2022 was conferred on Taufiq Rahman, a stage and film star who contributed to the Assamese mobile theatre, at a special award-giving function organized in connection with the 16th death anniversary of the Natya Samrat Prafulla Borah by the Madhab Mandir Bahumukhi Pakalpa, Da-Parbatia, Tezpur.
